Appendicitis surgery, also known as appendectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to remove the appendix, a small pouch located in the lower right abdomen. Appendicitis occurs when the appendix becomes inflamed or infected, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, and loss of appetite. If left untreated, appendicitis can progress to a ruptured appendix, which can result in serious complications such as peritonitis (inflammation of the abdominal cavity) and sepsis (a life-threatening infection).
